What is TCYS Soccer?

Tipp City Youth Soccer (TCYS) is a recreational soccer program offered to youth players who are 3-19 years of age with the emphasis being on Fun, Fitness, and Skill Building in a less competitive environment.  Recreational soccer is administered through local districts, which organize with other districts through areas to form leagues with a reasonable number of teams.  TCYS serves to promote youth soccer in Tipp City, Ohio.

When are practices?

Coaches are allowed to hold practices no earlier than the middle of July.  The specific date is always 30 days prior to Opening Day (please see Calendar for specific dates). Specific practice times and days of the week are determined by each individual coach/team and whatever works best for their schedule. Most teams practice on weekday evenings, but teams may practice on Saturdays as well.

Can you reserve a field?

No, we do not take field reservations.  Green space is all you need to hold a practice.  If you do need to practice set plays or finishing drills you can use the goal area but a majority of your practice should NOT be in the 18 or in the goal.  We want to protect those areas as much as possible for the duration of the season.

Fields are first come first serve.  You can use lollipop fields, wee devil fields, kyle park, neighborhood parks.....anywhere there is green space to hold a practice.  Remember the more touches on the ball each player gets the more they will learn control of that ball.

When are Games?

The season will begin the middle/end of August (please see calendar for specific dates).  The individual game schedules will not be available until shortly before then.  The games for Passers and above (7/19) older will typically be in the evenings Monday thru Thursday and Saturdays.  Lollipops (3/4) & Wee Devils (5/6) will typically be on Saturday mornings with the exception of the weekends of Labor Day & Mum Festival.

How many practices/games will there be a week?

We recommend that you limit each team to 2 activities per week.  There may be instances during the season that due scheduling, you may have 3 games in a week.

Where are the practices/games played?

·        All practices will be at Kyle Park.

·        All Wee Devils and Passers’ games will also be at Kyle Park.

·        Wings and above will travel and compete against the other districts in our SAY Area (Bethel, Miami East, Northwestern and Graham).    The number of away games will vary by team/division, typically around half the total games (5).

Is there an end of the season tournament?

Passers and above will have an end of the season Fun Tournament.  The passers tournament will be the first weekend in October.  Wings above will have an area wide tournament the second weekend in October.

What equipment will my child need?

·        Shin Guards (required for all practices and games)

·        Soccer Cleats (not required, but highly recommended) *cleats cannot have a “toe cleat” or be metal

·        Ball (please see size recommendations above)

·        Water Bottle

How are the teams determined?

A quick summary of the process is each team is assigned a head coach and assistant coach and then players are assigned by a blind draw (we can’t see the players name) based on age/years of experience (the total age and years of experience of each team will be close).

Can I request that my child play for a specific coach or player?

No, please see question above regarding the team draws.  The only exception being, siblings that are playing in the same age division may be placed on the same team.

How much playing time will my child get?

All players present at the start of the game should play equivalent of approximately one-half of that game.  It is the coach’s responsibility to monitor playing time.

Can my child play in a different division?

We will consider requests to play up one year, but it will be subject to the TCYS board approval.  The main factor will be the number of children we have in each age group.  We want to keep the teams as small as possible to increase the amount of playing time for each player.  A player with a disability or a development problem may be assigned and play in the next younger Age-Division, only if approved by the SAY Area.  All requests must be made in writing to tcyspresident@gmail.com prior to the end of registration on 5/15.

Per National guidelines, we cannot allow Lollipops (3/4 yr olds) to play up in Passers (7/8 yr olds).

Can my child wear jewelry or play with a cast?

No jewelry or hard cast is allowed during practice or games.

I have an issue with a coach or saw something during a practice or game I did not think was acceptable?

We recommend that you start with a private conversation with your coach to discuss the issue (ideally not right after a game or after the incident has occurred (unless a child’s safety is at risk)).  If you are not satisfied with the response or do not feel comfortable talking to the coach, please then contact the TCYS board at tcyspresident@gmail.com and we will address the issue.

Please remember that we are a recreational league and all of our coaches, referees, board members…etc. are all unpaid volunteers.  We want to do everything we can to ensure that each child has a positive experience playing soccer.
